When:
Location: Senior Fellow’s Home
Gina Dalma, SVCF, and Tim Olson, KQED, both ALF Class XXX, invite you to join them and other ALF Senior Fellows for dinner and dialogue on an urgent issue impacting all of us and our democracy: News, Technology and Truth in the Age of Misinformation.
There is growing distrust in news, government, and nonprofit institutions worldwide, driven by a sense of inequity and unfairness in the system.1 The business model that has supported news production for decades is in steep decline.2 The rise of technology companies as news aggregators has dramatically shifted news consumption and perceptions, and mis-information has become a core concern for society, especially in this 2020 election year. How are news organizations adapting? How is reader revenue3, constructive journalism,4 audience-driven editorial models,5 the trust project6 and other efforts reviving journalism in the age of misinformation? How are we finding/discerning truth amidst the misinformation? How does this impact our democracy?
