Inspirational stories of change makers and community builders

In the Spring of 2020, ALF Silicon Valley began a partnership centered on a social impact art project titled De.Coded – A Human Atlas of Silicon Valley. The project, commissioned by the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art in collaboration with the David & Lucile Packard Foundation, is the effort of British artist Marcus Lyon.

De.Coded – A Human Atlas of Silicon Valley is an extensive, research-based, interdisciplinary exploration of the human capital of Silicon Valley. The project will be designed as a book and an interactive exhibition featuring 101 individuals from across all sectors of Silicon Valley and its communities. The project will map these remarkable individuals through photographic portraits, app-based oral-history soundtracks, and ancestral DNA. This will create a deeper understanding of and connection to the individuals and hold a mirror up to society and the audience’s roles and responsibilities to their communities, cities, and fellow human beings.

In early 2022 Marcus Lyon and his De.Coded team spent a few months meeting all of their 101 fabulous De.Coders and the project moved into the post-production phase later in the year. Alongside key partners, they are now focused on the design elements, ancestral DNA analysis, mobile app and sound interview edits to produce a beautiful book expected to debut this Fall.

Stay tuned for announcements about the project’s public premiere later this year. In the meantime, check out the De.Coded – A Human Atlas of Silicon Valley on Instagram and view previews of the 101 De.Coded participants, including an incredible number of Senior Fellows!
