Forecasting the Future

In October, current Fellow Anneliese Olson hosted the Fellows from Class XLIV at HP Inc. for their Forecasting the Future session. The class learned from Institute for the Future guest faculty Bob Johansen and Quin Childs about issues of leadership in our VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) world, which Bob Johansen explained has become BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, Incomprehensible).

The class explored various challenges and opportunities, including AI, equity, and shifting from traditional present-forward strategic planning to more insightful future-back thinking.

The group also reviewed an Election Preparation Guide to get grounded in what matters, no matter what by:

  • Identifying sources of resilience and sustainable action.
  • Developing personal and organizational intentions that nurture hope, connection, care, and focus
  • Anticipating shifts, we might need to make in response to a few different election outcomes.
