Public Safety: What are the roles for community & police?

June 24, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am PDT

What have we learned since the murder of George Floyd?

Join ALF Senior Fellows and Fellows from across our national network to learn and share about our roles – law enforcement and community leaders – and opportunities to think and act in new ways to make and keep our communities safe.

Let’s disrupt the polarizing debate about defunding and defending police and ask ourselves the bigger questions:

  • What do communities need to be safe?
  • What have we learned, and what changes are we making since the police killing of George Floyd two years ago?

Hear from local and national leaders in law enforcement and civil rights from California, North Carolina, Texas, and Washington. Share your experiences and ideas, too!

Moderator: Rick Williams, ALF Fellows Program Co-Facilitator & former Philanthropy CEO (ALF Silicon Valley, Class XXXIII)

Panelists:

  • Louis Cooper, Sr. Director of Security & Corporate Social Responsibility, Port of Tacoma, and member, Tacoma Police Advisory Committee (ALF Tacoma, Class XX)
  • James Gonzales, San Jose Police Department & former Vice President, San Jose Police Officers Association, LGBTQ Community Leader, and co-leader, ALF Justice & Safety Learning Community (ALF Silicon Valley, Class XXVII)
