The 1619 Project Book Club Series: Progress & Justice

August 23, 2022 @ 6:15 pm - 8:15 pm PDT

The 1619 Project Book Club Series: Progress & Justice

George Brown (Class XXV), Executive Director, Stanford Center for Racial Justice, will host this small group at his Los Altos home.

Participants should read Chapter 17, “Progress” by Ibram X. Kendi, and Chapter 18, “Justice” by Nikole Hannah-Jones. Come ready to share your reflections, questions, and ideas about how the reading relates to our understanding of U.S. history and current issues.

These two chapters will allow us to reflect on the concept of Black progress in American history and the direction of the “arc of the moral universe.” We will also reflect on the role of Black Americans in advancing our democracy and what needs to happen to move towards a concept of justice.

Capacity limited to 10 individuals. Arrive between 6:15pm and 6:45pm. Book discussion from 6:45pm to 8:15pm.
