September 2020 Board Appointments

American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley is pleased to announce the newest appointments to our Board of Directors. Joining our existing fifteen members are Shelly Kapoor Collins (XXXVII), Founding Partner at The Shatter Fund, David Epps (Class XXIX), Alternate Public Defender, County of Santa Clara, and Tom Giles (Class XXXVII), Executive Editor at Bloomberg News.
 
Shelly Kapoor Collins
Founding Partner, The Shatter Fund
Shatter is a returns-driven fund investing in technology companies led and started by women and the culmination of Kapoor Collins’s entire career of working in the tech industry as a founder, investor, and advisor, and her extensive experience in mentoring and empowering women in the U.S. and abroad. An unparalleled network of strong female operators built over 20 years in the Tech industry provides the Shatter team with access to some of the most exciting, mission-driven female-led companies. Shelly has also worked at the highest level of politics, giving tech advice to President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign, serving as vice-chair of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Women in Public Service Project, and currently serving on Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s election team.
Shelly graduated with ALF Class XXXVII.
 
David Epps
Alternate Public Defender, County of Santa Clara
David received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1980, received his JD from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1992 and joined the County of Santa Clara in 1994. David is an advocate for advancing social justice and equity in the criminal justice system. As an administrator, he worked collaboratively with the district attorney, law enforcement agencies, the courts, probation, county executive, board of supervisors, community-based organizations, and other justice system partners to find ways to improve efficiency, reduce disproportionality, and reduce recidivism with the goal of enhancing public safety and justice.
David graduated with ALF Class XXIX.
 
Tom Giles
Executive Editor, Bloomberg News
Tom previously served as managing editor of U.S. company news and team leader for U.S. technology. Tom was also the editor of Businessweek.com’s Technology channel, based in Silicon Valley. Before joining Businessweek.com in 2005, Giles was deputy technology team leader at Bloomberg News, where he spent more than eight years, with stints in New York, London, and San Francisco. He holds a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University and a B.A. in politics from Princeton University.
Tom graduated with ALF Class XXXVII.
